The Futures in Enginnering programme is brought to Durham by the Rod Taylor family.
Eligibility
In addition to the standard eligibility criteria, you must also be studying the following subjects (or their equivalents) to be considered for the Engineering programme:
- A-Level Mathematics, and;
- Either A-Level Biology, Chemistry, Geology or Physics.
How does the Engineering Programme work?
As part of the Engineering programme, you will be allocated:
- A tutorial group (approx. 5 – 10 participants per group)
- An Engineering programme tutor
- An Engineering programme mentor
The Engineering programme takes place during the school term-time from April of Year 12 through to May of Year 13, with a different Engineering topic discussed in each three-week cycle as shown below:
Three-Week Programme Cycle
Participants receive an online introductory study pack including video guides and independent study resources for a certain Engineering topic.
Students complete structures self-study questions and submit responses to tutors for review.
Participants attend a one-hour online tutorial with a programme tutor and up to 10 other participants.
Questions relating to the topic and the self-study pack from Week 1 will be addressed and discussions facilitated between the participants and the tutor.
Your group will attend a one-hour online mentoring session with an undergraduate student mentor.
Participants will have opportunities to discuss a range of topic, such as University life, UCAS applications, and more.
